Organic certification is based on meeting a set of regulations to protect the environment and human health by eliminating pesticides and fertilizers that can be harmful. For this reason, we feel confident when consuming organic foods. The organic rules have been put into place by the USDA. Organic producers and handlers are audited yearly, so we can feel confident the requirements are being met.
For more information go to USDA’s National Organic Programs website.
The term natural, on the other hand, is a term that is not regulated by any set of standards, so it can be used by food manufacturers with very little or no oversight.
