FAQs

  • TAPIOCA SYRUP RS18

    arrow
How much sugar is in the syrup?
There are 18g of sugars per 100g of Tapioca Syrup RS18, compared to 29g of sugar per 100g in our standard tapioca syrup DE40 which has a similar sweetness. As defined, the term ‘sugars’ refers to the sum of all mono- and di-saccharides with a degree of polymerization (DP) of 1 or 2. Carbohydrates with higher degrees of polymerization are not classified as sugars, but as carbohydrates. Tapioca syrup RS18 is composed of a higher percentage of DP3 and DP4, which are excluded as added sugars on the nutritional facts panel under current regulations.
Why would I want to use it in my food or beverage product?
In addition to satisfying consumer demand for sweetness and sugar reduction, Tapioca Syrup RS18 has binding and film-forming properties comparable to a DE27-28 tapioca syrup. The unique balance of sweetness and function may allow developers of snack bars, granola, cereals and confections to use a single syrup where two or more syrups are typically used to achieve desired sweetening and binding.
    Is this product certified organic?
At the time of launch, Tapioca Syrup RS18 is Non-GMO Project Verified, but is not certified organic. We are exploring the possibility of achieving organic certification.
How can this ingredient be listed in the ingredient statement of a packaged consumer product?
On our technical data sheet we have listed the following suggestions: tapioca syrup. However, we always advise customers to consult with a labeling expert.
  • Agave Syrup AL40

    arrow
How are you able to produce agave syrup with such a significant reduction in sugar and calories?
Organic Agave Syrup AL40 is produced similarly to traditional agave syrup using enzyme hydrolysis. Using an organic-approved enzyme, approximately 40% of the solids in Organic Agave Syrup AL40 are converted from fructose to allulose (an undigestible monosaccharide). Allulose contains only 0.4 calories per gram, compared to fructose which contains 4 calories per gram. Organic Agave Syrup AL40 has 40% less sugar and 40% fewer calories compared to our regular agave syrup.
How much allulose is in the syrup?
On a dry basis, 40% of the solids in Organic Agave Syrup AL40 are allulose. On a wet basis, it has 29g of allulose per 100g. The allulose is inherent in the syrup during processing. No allulose is added.
How sweet is the AL40 syrup?
Organic Agave Syrup AL40 is 10-20% less sweet than our regular agave syrup.
Why would I want to use it in my food or beverage product?
Consumers are increasingly interested in reducing added sugars in their diets, while also showing preference for non-artificial sweeteners. Organic Agave Syrup AL40 is certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified. It can help you achieve a meaningful reduction in added sugars on your label.
Can this syrup be used in frozen confections?
Organic Agave Syrup AL40 is an excellent choice for frozen confections including dairy and non-dairy ice cream and handheld novelties because all of the solids in the AL40 are monosaccharides. Mono sugars create a lower freezing point compared to using only cane sugar.
How can this ingredient be listed in the ingredient statement of a packaged consumer product?
On our technical data sheet we have listed the following suggestions: organic agave syrup OR organic agave allulose syrup. However, we always advise customers to consult with a labeling expert.
    Is this ingredient GRAS?
While agave syrup with inherent (not added) allulose is a novel product, GRAS support exists separately for agave syrup, allulose, and the specific enzyme used in production. A compiled “definitional and GRAS support” document is available for prospective customers upon request.
  • Agave Syrup IN10

    arrow
How much inulin fiber is in the syrup and where did it come from?
All agave syrups are produced from inulin, a naturally occurring fructan found in the agave plant. During processing, the inulin is hydrolyzed using enzymes and converted to sugar. To produce our Organic Agave Syrup IN10, the hydrolysis is stopped before the inulin is fully converted, leaving 10% of the solids (7.5g) to be retained as prebiotic inulin fiber.
How sweet is the IN10 syrup?
Agave syrup is largely composed of fructose sugars which are 1.2 to 1.5 times sweeter than cane sugar. Organic Agave Syrup IN10 is 5-10% less sweet than regular agave syrup, or equivalent to the sweetness of sucrose.
Can I use Organic Agave Syrup IN10 as a direct substitute for regular agave syrup?
Yes, Organic Agave Syrup IN10 has similar functionality and solids content so it can be substituted 1:1 with regular agave syrup in most applications. There will be a slight reduction in calories and sugar when using Organic Agave Syrup IN10, and an increase in soluble fiber. It will also be slightly less sweet.
Why would I want to use it in my food or beverage product?
Organic Agave Syrup IN10 allows a slight reduction in sugar and calories compared to regular agave syrup, while providing the addition of prebiotic inulin fiber. It is certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified. These nutritional properties and certifications may appeal to health-conscious consumers seeking functional food and beverages.
How can this ingredient be listed in the ingredient statement of a packaged consumer product?
On our technical data sheet we have listed the following suggestions: organic agave syrup OR organic agave inulin syrup. However, we always advise customers to consult with a labeling expert.
